Why we built software with stories

Jira Stories are meant to solve two problems in software development.

(Neither is about writing better requirements.)

 1. Too much to build

 2. Documents just don't work

Because there is too much to build, we want to build less.

As fast as we deliver new ideas, more keep coming, so we want to build less, minimize the outcome, and maximize the impacts.

Because documents just don't work, we should minimize their use. It's like looking at a vacation photo; it should remind you of more than just what you can see. That's why we share Stories; it compels us to talk and explain them. Stories are named for their use, not their appearance.

Some insights from Jeff Patton's user Story presentations, which I found simply awesome. A link can be found in the first comment.
